Joe, Orion Individual Employment participant.

Joe

Joe was referred to Orion's Mukilteo supported employment program in October of 2014. His referral came as a result of his participation in the School to Work program, allowing him to transition to a paid position before leaving school.

Joe has shown that he has good communication skills, and that he is a hard worker. He has the ability to learn, and the aptitude to be able to work with a wide variety of employers.

Joe gained experience through job training at Goodwill. Joe's employment consultant used this experience to help him create a resume. With the assistance of his employment consultant he also gained confidence in interview techniques.

Joe was placed in a position in April of 2015. He works at Manor Care, an assisted care facility, in Lynnwood, as a dietary aide. Joe is currently looking to increase his hours and find additional work as he enjoys working and keeping busy.

At first Joe was nervous in the unfamiliar environment of his new job at Manor Care, but he worked with his supervisor and his employment consultant, practicing his tasks until he became comfortable. Joe said, "I like to get my job done on time."

Joe's hard work was rewarded with an employee of the month selection for December of 2016.

Joe's mother said, "I don't think Joe would have a job if not for the support he has received."

Congratulations Joe!

Esequiel at work in Orion's Auburn Manufacturing Training Program.

Esequiel  was referred to Orion's Auburn location by the Division of Vocational Rehabilitation (DVR) to participate in Orion's Manufacturing Training Program. Esequiel likes working with his hands, so his occupational therapist at DVR suggested that Orion's paid training program would be a good fit.

Esequiel was looking to become more independent, not wanting to let his use of a wheelchair limit him. When Esequiel came for a tour of Orion's Auburn Manufacturing Training Program he saw that there were others using wheelchairs, so he became more comfortable.
Esequiel has received training in Grommets, Part Mark, Clamp Block Assembly, Mechanical Assembly, Hydraulic Build Unit (HBU), and Chaku. He has also taken math, blueprint reading, and measurement tools classes.

Esequiel was the winner of Orion's Worker of the Month award for March 2017. Esequiel was nominated by his co-workers who commented, "Esequiel has many great qualities, but two stand out the most: first, he has a great work ethic and strives to conquer each task, second, he has a leadership quality and magnetic personality that attracts others. He will be a great asset for any employer!"

Lavada Colon, Esequiel's job developer, said, "Esequiel's goal was to increase his independence, and as his confidence has grown it's been great to see him moving towards achieving his goal. He has now moved into his own apartment, and is able to use the mass transit system to commute."

Esequiel said, "The Orion trainers taught me in a way that allowed me to learn easily. The most amazing thing I have learned is that I am capable of doing more than I expected!"

Esequiel found his rhythm working in the Chaku and HBU areas, and is hoping to find employment doing similar work. If you are interested in learning more about Esequiel or would like to see his resume, call Lavada Colon at 253-661-7805, or email Lavada at  lavada.colon@orionworks.org.
