Kimberly at work at TTF Aerospace.

Kimberly

Kimberly originally joined Orion in July of 2015 in the manufacturing training program. Kimberly made the most out of her time at Orion. She listened to any tip her mentors gave her, and was able to add not only training and experience to her resume, but also some impressive Boeing certifications. In addition to completing the Orion blueprint reading class Kimberly completed Orion's Mechanical Assembly Internship. Kimberly said, "My goal was to make the most out of everything Orion had to offer. I knew that would make the difference."

While Kimberly was working on gaining skills, TTF Aerospace was learning about what Orion program graduates could offer. Heather MacLarsen, TTF HR Manager, stated, "We were having trouble in the market finding qualified people, and a few people on our team had heard about Orion, so we thought why not check Orion's program out. Orion invited us to see their shop and training program.

Kimberly joined the TTF team at the beginning of 2016. Kimberly started out using the skills she had gained from her Mechanical Assembly Internship and the Orion blueprint reading class to assemble their jobs. They quickly saw not only how her manufacturing talent was going to benefit TTF, but how her previous office experience could help them as well.

Kimberly learned how find and identify the materials needed to build a job, both using a computer and on the shop floor, helping her and her team get more done each day. This has grown into her primary role at TTF, but she still gets a chance to do some assembly work, and she is glad she is in a role where she has the opportunity to do both.

Kimberly has been a great ambassador for Orion with TTF. Since Kimberly started with TTF in January, TTF has given additional Orion clients the opportunity to work for the company. Jerry Marts, TTF Production Manager, said, "We knew that Orion training program graduates were potentially a great resource for us."

One of Kimberly's goals is to be a good example to her daughters, and she is proud of the progress she has made, and she knows her girls are proud too. Kimberly said, "Orion gave me a chance to learn, and provided the information I needed to grow. I'm proud of the changes that the Orion training program made in me; I am stronger than I ever thought I was."

Justin at work on the Orion manufacturing floor.

Justin  joined Orion's training program after being referred by a friend who had gone through the program.  While in the Orion training program, Justin gained experience in Shipping, Receiving, Packing, and Part Mark. In addition, Justin learned the importance of the soft skills that make a good employee. Justin said, "I always knew that I could do what was asked of me, and I could learn the needed steps and process. I became aware of the importance of punctuality; being on time, and being ready to work when the bell rings. I learned to give my all at all times through the day."

Orion's vocational counselors and mentors support program participants by teaching them both the hard skills and soft skills that are necessary to perform well in a job.

Justin said, "Orion helped me realize I can rely on myself, and that I can do what is needed to be successful. Orion is a great place to create a foundation and build character."

Justin is excited to start his career and is looking for manufacturing or warehouse work. If you are interested in learning more about Justin or would like to see his resume, call Barb Panush at 253-661-7805, or email Barb at  barb.panush@orionworks.org.

Joanna Boatwright (Orion), Shawn Hosford (Alder & Riddle) and Pam Nevi (Weco Aircraft) would like to say "Thank you" to all the women who were able to make it out to 2016's second quarterly Women in Aerospace Networking Event.

Guests enjoyed facility tours while learning about the important mission of Orion; an articulate short presentation defining the tools to become better at collaborating by Jovonia (Jo) Edwards, Senior Engineering Manager with Boeing; and as always, lots of opportunities to chat, brainstorm, and collaborate with other smart and interesting women in the aerospace industry.
